This odd California collective of multi-instrumentalists was known for eccentric compositions and exotic instrumentation, with a strong dose of psychedelic folk-rock weirdness and artsy experimentation. They were bound to be inconsistent, but their high points are truly excellent.

(There’s another band called Kaleidoscope from the same time period, this one from the UK, that has two tracks elsewhere in my 1960s playlists, both from the Nuggets II compilation.  Their work is trippy and psychedelic in more of a British rock/pop vein.)

This playlist (for my tastes at least) does a far better job at presenting them at their finest than any of the the commercially available compilations.
