When music fans think of Them (if they think of Them at all), it’s most likely for one of two things: the song “Gloria” or, more likely, the starting point for lead singer Van Morrison, who would go on to more renown as a solo artist.  That’s a shame, really, for although Them had a fairly short run, it was glorious.  Morrison’s passionate delivery captivate at every turn, and the band stoked the fire beneath him.  Morrison’s emerging mystic sensibilities reveal themselves here and there, but take the shape of frenzied, climactic outbursts, rather than the mellow, meandering expressiveness characterized by his solo work  This is vibrant, electrifying stuff, not to be missed.
