Centered around the twin talents of Allan Clarke and Graham Nash, the Hollies emerged with a pop sound similar to that of the early Beatles.

Their three-part vocal harmonies in particular drew attention. Sometimes when groups sing in unison (the Byrds come to mind here), there’s not much character to each of the individual voices, but the Hollies’ voices sound distinct enough to create a bit of a buzz in the sound. Nash’s nasally sweet tone in particular juxtaposes nicely with the more even keel of the others.

For some time, the Hollies were more known for their covers, but I’ve chosen to focus more (but not entirely) on their originals here.  The playlist starts from their beginnings and continues up to the departure of Nash.
