As far as I’m concerned, The Who should need no introduction, so let’s just dive in.
When I shift to the 1970s, I’ll add a third playlist.
Enjoy!
Playlist 1
Playlist 1 contains the best of 1960s Who, from their albums and non-album singles.
Playlist 2
Playlist 2 is a shortened mix of their album Tommy. (The great “Pinball Wizard” appears on both playlists, 1 & 2.)
Update: The ‘70s and Beyond
Updated 2023/03/31
Here are three more playlist from the Who, through the ‘70s and up until their breakup in 1983. The 1970s were their arena rock years, when they became known as the loudest band in rock.
(Their hard-rocking reputation contrasts, I feel, with the fairly introspective nature of their lyrics. As opposed to fellow rockers like the Rolling Stones—who were pretty much all about the sex, drugs, and rock and roll—the Who tended to tackle issues of identity and isolation, and their music has a much artsier bent.)
Enjoy!
Playlist 3
The entirety of the Who’s Next album.
Playlist 4
The Who had a thing for concept albums, first with Tommy and then Quadrophenia. Playlist 4 proves a lengthy taste of the latter.
Playlist 5
Playlist 5 provides highlights from the rest of the Who’s original run.
