The Small Faces were one of the great British Invasion bands that never really made much of an invasion. They were big in England, but that didn’t translate into success in America.   When I grew up, I’d never heard of them, although their influence loomed large over bands I’d heard of quite a bit—any kid who grew up on a steady diet of Zeppelin will be plenty shocked upon hearing “You Need Loving” and “Come on Children” (released years ahead of “Whole Lotta Love”) for the first time. (No doubt many of the similar lyrics share a previous source somewhere in the blues.)

This playlist follows the Small Faces from their early days of soulful blues-rock frenzy through their excursions into psychedelia. Dig it, or be square.

Playlist Note: The last track on this playlist as I envisioned it was supposed to be “Call It Something Nice,” but I was not able to find it in Spotify.
