Artist Spotlight: The Creation

Formed in England in 1966 and disbanded just two years later, The Creation never released an album in their home country and never had a smash hit.  (Their sole album, We Are Paintermen, was released in Germany, where they had more success.)  Yet they have become a cult favorite, in part due to guitarist Eddie Phillips’ use of the violin bow to play his electric guitar (perhaps the first musician to do so).  All their output fits on a single CD, and I’ve selected the best of it here.  (Basically, I’ve excluded all the covers.  Of them, only “Hey Joe” seems worth much of a listen, and that pales in comparison to the similar—and later—version by Jimi Hendrix that most of us are most familiar with.)
