I tend to be the type of music fan who likes to hear a little edge or irregularity or pushing of musical boundaries when I listen. Straight-up singer-songwriter stuff doesn’t usually appeal to me. Yet Aimee Mann can often charm me with her sharp, wry wit. Plus, there’s something about the melodies of her vocal lines (which I can’t quite put my finger on) that casts a spell on me. I can’t help myself. She forces me to love her songs, and I’m happy for it.
