I’ve made plenty of disparaging remarks about Ride’s ho-hum vocals—which in my estimation seem to run the emotional gamut between bored and comatose—but there’s no doubt the band has some worthy material. An aptly titled band, they ride a wave of swirling guitars in songs that can build like an ocean swell or hit like a tsunami. They are justifiably considered one of the key shoegaze bands of the movement that swept the UK in the early ‘90s. Their debut album Nowhere (1990) is considered a classic of the genre; it was certainly groundbreaking, and good. But its successor, Going Blank Again (1992), is considerably better.

Here’s a quick plunge into the sound of Ride.
