Swedish pop singer Robyn underwent one of the most significant artistic reinventions I can recall offhand. Beginning her career as a competent but unremarkable contemporary R&B singer, she channeled her interest in the electronic sounds created by the Knife and others into her own work. The end result represents a near-perfect integration of the innovations in electronic music into the framework of dance-pop music. Nowadays, a lot of pop music sounds like this, but at the time, it was unique.
This playlist focuses on Robyn’s groundbreaking self-titled album (released in 2005 in Sweden and 2007 elsewhere) and the series of Body Talk releases from 2010.
I intended to go with a chronological presentation here, as is my general preference, but instead found I liked the playlist much more when I started off with some favorites and blended the releases more seamlessly, letting the flow of the songs tell me how to sequence it.
Enjoy!
