Nick Drake’s hushed, melodic vocals and intricate acoustic guitar work create a hypnotic air of melancholy buffered by resignation, with only faint glimmers of hope. His music is engaging and memorable, yet achingly sorrowful—depression elevated to the level of an art form. When he died, the world lost a visionary.
